The largest city in Hampshire is known for its West-End shows at the Mayflower Theatre and for being a major port.

  • SeaCity Museum - The museum gives an interactive tour about Southampton’s connection to the Sea and the many historic people and voyages that have used its mighty port, including information on the Titanic. The museum is open daily and prices for adults are £6.

 

  • Beaulieu - Visitors can view the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu where the largest collection of authentic James Bond cars, the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and several Top Gear vehicles come together with many, many more. This also includes Palace House and Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey and various rides. The price for adults is £20.

 

  • Go Ape - This is a treat for all the family. Go Ape provides visitors with two to three hours of tree swinging fun. The rope course consists of zip slides, Tarzan swings, rope bridges and much of it is set 120 feet above the forest floor. Prices vary depending on individual adventures.

 

  • Manor Farm Country Park - Adults will enjoy this day out just as much as young children. The farm is full of a great selection of animals and costumed characters. Visitors will get the chance to bottle feed lambs, cuddle the new born rabbits and try their hands at milking a cow. It’s the perfect day out for young families and adult prices are just £7.

 

  • Marwell Zoo - The Zoo is home to over 180 species of animals and makes a fun day for all ages. Amongst the animals visitors will find Tigers, Penguins, Giraffes, Meerkats and many more. It is open daily from 10am and the price for an adult including a donation for their wildlife conservation charity is £14.

 

  • Tudor House and Gardens - Over 800 years of history can be found at the Tudor House in Southampton’s Old Town. Visitors can wander throughout the house and the gardens while learning about the history of the city and the people who once lived in the house. The tour is both relaxing and informative. It is open every day from 10am to 5pm.

To get a real feel for the areas past and culture the Tudor House and SeaCity Museum are ideal. But if visitors want to add a bit more adventure to their trip, the whole family will enjoy a day at Go Ape, Marwell Zoo, Manor Farm Country Park or the many attractions of Beaulieu.

 

The Southampton night life is one that should not missed and if visitors are lucky they may be able to catch a few sailor tales while enjoying a drink at the bar. If a touch of sophistication is what’s needed then visitors can head to The Mayflower Theatre and catch a West End show or enjoy a river cruise at Buckler’s Hard.
